Hello? What happened to this club? After the Stolen Earth only Tim commented on the finale? In a full week? Seriously?

And taking a leaf out of Boe's book, here I go with a crazy long post.

SPOILERS
I actually just saw the episodes. I don't know how you guys managed to LIVE with the ending of the Stolen Earth and then waited a whole week for the next one! I would have died.
I mean, I KNEW Tennant was sticking around, and I still hyperventilated for a good three minutes until I thought I was going to pass out. And no, I'm not exaggerating. Dead serious.

I'm not even going to touch on The Stolen Earth episode, because I read Boe's post (yeah) and she covered every living second of the episode, so it'd be pointless. Let me just say that this episode would not have been the same with the epic win that is Ianto.

And I'm still pondering the finale so I'm sure I'll have more to say at another juncture, but let me just throw out some thoughts for you.

Less Martha, more Ianto. That's what should have happened here. Because Ianto made The Stolen Earth, and the finale just wasn't the same without him.

Nice resolution with Rose. I applaud that. When The Doctor (the other one will be referred to as the Half) actually sent Rose HOME, I freaked. I did. I freaked out. It was something along the lines of "Are you kidding me right now you love her and she traveled through dimensions for you and you haven't even kissed her yet and I saw how you looked at the end of Doomsday don't even try to deny that you're mad for her!!!! AND YOU'RE SENDING HER HOME! WHAT?!" Something like that. One big run-on sentence of me yelling in disbelief. And then him chickening out..."It doesn't need to be said." I want to whack him over the effing head for being a moron. So, when she kissed the Half, something was not quite right there. But as soon as it was over, I was like, "Hell, I'll take it." And then I was grinning like mad. I'm sad that Rose is out of the running now, but she actually has a Doctor. But the Doctor...the look on his face broke me into little tiny pieces. I can't believe one person can stand so much suffering... and then set her up with another person. Ouch.

As much as I liked the reunion of all the companions, it was a bit...fanclub-y to me. I don't know why. And then Martha and Mickey ending up with Torchwood...see Tim's above statement, multiply it by five, and you get me.

Dalek Caan was the BAMF of this episode, for sure. However, it's starting to make me angry that every time there is a prophesy of a death, the Doctor always manages to save them. What was the point of the so-called "prophesy" if it's never fulfilled? Dalek Caan was only wrong in the one respect; Donna's death. As for that subject, I (remember, I love Donna to death) actually rather she'd died than what the Doctor did to her. And even SHE would have rather died, she as good as said so. But her not remembering him and then blowing him off...did not sit right with me.

On that subject, Donna was never more amazing than as the Doctor Donna (and with this, she has sealed her place as my favorite companion). I spent that whole time just laughing myself to death because of the epic win. However, I did NOT like the Half. There was something very...un-Doctory about him. He seemed very young and green as the Doctor. I mean, I get that he was supposed to be a combination of the Doctor and a human, but I did NOT like it. I can't even tell you what it was about him that irked me, but he didn't seem like the Doctor. He didn't even strike me with the amazingness of Tennant (I mean, I always like Tennant, whether he's playing John Smith or Casanova), but I didn't here. The only redeeming moment he had was when he leaned over and finally told Rose that he loved her. Only time when I didn't hate his guts. Even his suit irked me.It's fair to say he annoyed me as much, if not more, than Martha.

Speaking of Martha, can we get her a new outfit, please? Her hair slicked back and wearing that hideous black outfit just makes me want to scream. Okay, it was fine the first time we saw her, because it showed the obvious change in her, etc. Now however, it was just annoying, and unflattering. Freema is a beautiful woman, but that outfit made her look terrible.

Okay, emo moment with Wilf at the end was so cute. I actually shed a few tears over it. I can't help it, I love me some emo Doctor, and the actor who plays Wilf pulled it off just perfectly. On that same point, I don't know what it was about the Doctor taking off the jacket at the end that just made me squee a little inside. It was a rather odd gesture, because he never takes that jacket off, and it made him look so...vulnerable without it. It was beautiful.

I was waiting for that moment, however. You know the one. The one where something absolutely crazy happens, and the Doctor does his trademark "WHAT?!" I mean, I actually missed it. I was waiting for it, to break up the emoness, and to leave the cliffhanger, but it was sadly absent. I mean, even at the ridiculous mourning after Doomsday they broke it up with Donna appearing, but it wasn't here? I mean, come on.

And finally (I could have organized my thoughts better, but I'm justing running off the top of my head), I actually didn't see the problem behind the Half killing all the Daleks. The Doctor threw a fit about "murder and genocide" when really, he did the exact same thing the first time around, but with less success. Kind of the pot calling the kettle black, you know?

END SPOILERS

By the way, I'm going to be having a lot of Doctor banners here pretty soon, because my dear Aliana made a ton for me. I'm so excited to see them.

^ True story. She had typos galore in her message to me right after watching the Stolen Earth. Loss of blood to the brain, mayhap? Doctor Who does that sometimes.

Anyways, I need to watch the finale a couple more times. I've been way, way too busy to comment just yet.

Haha, I edited my above post obviously. After saying that I didn't want to comment, my brain just started working, so I fixed it.

Ha. Wow hon. Post gargatuan. I think you covered everything. Except....

[SPOILERY]

The TARDIS almost dying had me in tears. No joke. I love that blue box. And Donna being trapped inside? I flipped out. I mean, somewhere inside me I knew she's get the awesome death she deserves, NOT dying in a fire in the Dalek's Crucible. But still. Favorite part of the entire episode?

"It's you!"
"Oh yes!"
"You're naked!"
"Oh yes!"

I had to catch my breath laughing after that. Like serious rotflmao moment. The look on both their faces was full of the most amazing awesome ever.

Dalek Caan = Fragglerocking adorable. I want one. They should make a collectible Dalek Caan, or a plushie, or something. I want one.

I like that the two Doctors were kindof almost...opposites. Like the Half[stealing Mika's word here] was the part of the Doctor that Davros was trying to bring out. Which is why, at the end when Davros says "I have shown you yourself" it kinda clicked with me. Like OH! The Half is the anti-Doctor! So I liked that he was Donna-ish. It makes some fort of weird Doctor-Whoish sense. I love Donna. I love the Doctor. So the human DoctorDonna/Half and the timelord DoctorDonna were ultimate rawresome for me.

Skipping around, Mickey was great in this episode. I don't normally like him, because he likes Rose and Rose is most definitely the Doctor's forever and ever, but he was just brilliant. He kissed the gun. It doesn't get more awesome than that. Also, when him and Jack see eachother. XD 'Mickey Mouse!' 'Cheesecake!' I squeed. My brother hit me I squeed so loud[Yeah, my brother watches Doctor Who/Torchwood with me. It's pretty awesome.]

I want to see Martha wearing white. Really, honestly. the more I see her in the last episode the more I want to call the wardrobe people over there in the UK and tell them to put her in something slightly more flattering. I mean, yeah, she's the manlycompanion, but it's like she's half trying to look all sleek and feminine but stops short somewhere around looking like a really masculine Matrix agent. Except one with a perpetually surprised face. Like, honestly. She traveled with the Doctor. She's been to Torchwood before. And did anyone see her EVER looking tough? It was either the I-just-saw-Bambi's-mom-die look or a look of complete terror. I was disappointed. She could have played up the BAMF role and she didn't. Just like the outfit, it fell short.

My favorite like of hers was, hands down, "He found you" when she sees Rose. Like...the look on her face was PERFECT for that. Because it didn't change, except you could kindof see the 'Oh, I'm never going to get him, am I?' in her eyes for a split second. I did a little victory dance. See? You people have corrupted me. Martha is now a rather large annoyance for me. Torchwood will not be pleasant.

Speaking of Jack Harkness, who else laughed every time one of the females gave him the look. You know the one. It's the same one every human on this planet gives Jack Harkness the first time they see him smile. And the Doctor's just like 'Just....don't.' It's hilarious. And then Donna and Jack watching the Rose/Doctor moment after he regenerates[and before I forget, I TOTALLY called the hand being crucial] and him just laughing. I loved that.

What else? Oh yes, Ianto. I wanted more Ianto. I was all sad that him and Gwen didn't get as much screen time as they should have. I wanted more Ianto laughing-at-the-television. Though when Jack was talking to Martha about how he knew about the teleporation thing and Ianto had a bit of a moment. xD Janto = <3.

Oh! Oh! Jackie was also full of win in Journey's End. She was a mama on a mission.

Them ending back in Norway was kinda bittersweet. I almost cried just because of all the shots that were the exact same as in Doomsday except with the Half there too. Though Rose getting all woohoo over the Half being human and able to grow old and die? I was more than a little disappointed in her. She loves the Doctor. It doesn't matter that he's a timelord, dammitall.

My brother thinks that because there wasn't a cliff-hanger, either the Doctor's traveling alone now or Jenny's gonna pop up soon. Thoughts on that?

[/SPOILERY]

SPOILERS FOR MIDNIGHT, EVEN THOUGH ALL OF YOU HAVE ALREADY SEEN IT AND ARE IN FACT DISCUSSING THE LAST EPISODES.

I finally saw Midnight. That episode was so wierd, and at the same time so cool. When the entity in Sky started talking in sync with everyone else, I got really freaked out, not to mention very impressed. The actors must have practiced intensly to get that right. And then, when it took control of the Doctor...that was so sad! He looked like he was going to cry. Man, that whole episode was intense, especially when they were going to throw the Doctor out. I just about flipped a lid. Stupid humans, the Doctor is a gorgeous alien specimen that needs to be preserved so that all woman kind can just...stare in awe and unadultered lust.

Though at the end, I was kinda annoyed at the Doctor when he became angy at Donna for repeating him. 1: she did a much better job at pronouncing it that he did, and 2: She didn't know what happened. Just deal with it!

Okay, let me do this.

SPOILERS FOR MIDNIGHT.
(though I've already said this, I have to jump back for a moment since it was brought up)

Dude. Pretty much my favorite episode ever. I still have it as a ringtone "Shamble bobble dibble dooble. Oh Doctor you're so handsome, yes I am, thank you."

And yes, I wanted to break some people's heads when they actually were considerig throwing the Doctor out. Totally wanted to choke a...person.

BACK TO SPOILERS FOR JOURNEY'S END

Okay. My dear Ali brought up some things I forgot to mention.

First of all, Mickey Mick Mickster. As much as I've gone on the record and said that I didn't like this new supposedly BA Mickey...I loved him. I don't think I will have any problem with him on Torchwood. Martha yes, but Mickey...I think he'll be fine. The kissing the gun moment was sheer genius on so many levels.

And I think I'm going to add this other note that I didn't mention. Donna/Jack. Fricking amazing. I think mainly because that would totally be something I could see myself doing. "You can hug me. No seriously, hug me." (come to think of it, I don't know if that was the Stolen Earth or Journey's End. Either way, I'm going to talk about it because it fragglerocked my socks.) Seriously, I wanted nothing more than for Donna to just plant a big kiss on our Jack. I would have died laughing.

End teh spoilers.

Oh, no, Rose and Martha AREN'T the same person. Definitely not.

So apparently everyone is supposed to love Doctor/Rose. Except... I have always hated it. First time I ever saw Doctor Who, the only thing I could really think of was how much I disliked Rose. And that was just watching the second part of the Age of Steel episodes. First impression: Bad.

So then I actually started watching Season 3. So there's Martha. She may not be blonde, but personally I think she's a lot prettier than Rose, she's smarter, she was going to Med School, she actually seems to care about her family, she doesn't end up unconcious every other episode... I can't think of any reason why Rose is better.

Anyway. Then I went back and saw the first and second seasons. And I still hated Rose. Actually, I can pinpoint two places where she annoys me the most.
First one - The entire episode of New Earth. Sure, she was possessed, but Possessed!Rose wasn't all that different from Normal!Rose.
Second one - The line in The Impossible Planet where they're talking about the planet and the black hole, and Rose says "Like a Rollercoaster!"
... The people happen to be living in a very dangerous situation, and she's there comparing it to a rollercoaster. That annoys the heck out of me.
Oh, and then there's the betting in Tooth and Claw. So then apparently the entire universe/entire timeline of the universe is there for her amusement.

So maybe the reason I like Martha better is because she was there first the way I watched it, but I honestly cannot see why Rose is better, because she isn't. In any way. Unless you count 'Blonde' as better.

I have no companion hate whatsoever (except for maybe mickey, but that doesn't count very much) My first taste of Doctor Who was with Rose, and I really liked her. Of course she had a crush on him (seriously, look me in the eye and tell me you wouldn't totally crush on the Doctor if you were his companion) but I don't think it was overly exuberant. I will admit, she got a bit annoying at times, but not every one is perfect all of the times (except for the Doctor and Ianto Jones) I think that for traveling through time and space, risking your life day in and day out, it would be quite easy to have some one far less agreeable.
But I also like Martha (The reason I dispise the rumour that she may be on Torchwood is because recycling saves the world, not tv shows) As a companion she did perfectly well.

I saw stolen earth part 1: Spoilers for those few that havn't seen it.

Ianto Jones pwns the universe! Even if he was only in it for a little while, I feel better for seeing him. I feel like a crack addict.... But I digress. Um.....what can I say. FRAKKING AWESOME! The ending has me writhing though. Regeneration? I know something is odd with that, because in the preview for the next episode its still David Tennent. Just too gorgeous to change, I guess.
The crazy Dalek is so cool! It was pulled off really well too. With the tone of voice Daleks have it could have been really hard to tell that he was insane.
I cannot wait until next week! Yay!

Sorry I'm late :-D

I got to say first before I start. I think some people (not necessarily on here) think that because I prefer Martha and Donna to Rose, that I somehow hate Rose. I don't, I've never hated Rose. I love Rose. I just think Martha gets an incredibly and undeserved hard time from some people (again, not necessarily just here). When I said they were the same, I meant they both were infatuated with the Doctor. But some people seem to think that only Rose was allowed to be. It's double standards that one person is allowed to feel one way, but it's so incredibly wrong and hateful if another does.

I also have to add, that as an old curmudgeonly DW fan of long ago, I'm very much anti-Doctor/Companion romantic relationship. Perhaps I'm looking at it with rose tinted nostalgia specs, but this whole infatuation with the Doctor didn't ever happen in the original series. So bringing it in now irks me somewhat. It's beyond annoying that everyone and there dog fancies #10, so that's why Donna was a breath of fresh air for this old fart and has become my fave companion since Ace*

Eghads I've rambled..back to topic.
Again, I don't hate Rose, only the unfairness in some peoples attitudes towards Martha who only felt the same way Rose did. If it's okay for Rose to be smitten with him, why is it not alright for Martha? That's the part that I can't understand.

*BRING BACK ACE! -cough-

I think the reason that there is a "double standard" here was that the Doctor was attracted back to Rose. That's not my reason, nor does that make sense to me particularly, but I have heard that several times before.

Forgive me if I'm repeating myself, but I think that Martha and Rose's take on the Doctor were very different, even if they were both attracted to him. I don't feel that it's a double standard, necessarily, because Martha simply fell all over herself for the Doctor, and Rose really didn't (well, she FELL quite a bit, but not for the Doctor. :P)

And also, I may have said this here, but I can't be quite positive, so I'll reiterate; for someone as intelligent as Martha, she often made assumptions that were completely wrong, and in some cases, the Doctor believed those assumptions. A more recent example of this would be in The Doctor's Daughter. Martha sees that Jenny is dead, and even though the Doctor says that she possibly could regenerate, Martha says "There's no sign. She's like you, but maybe not enough." However, as we all see, that was wrong. And I don't understand what made Martha make this assumption in the first place. She really knew absolutely nothing about regeneration; she hadn't even seen the Doctor himself regenerate, so what could she possibly know about this completely unprecedented idea, when the Doctor himself didn't know? I don't know, that in particular always stands out to me. At least Rose KNEW that she didn't know anything, and she never pretended to.

I agree that is a very silly reason.

I have to disagree, it is a bit of a double standard. Saying someone is entitled to crush on him but someone else isn't, imo it doesn't matter how long someone has had those feelings or not. It's either okay to crush on the Doctor or it's not. I firmly stand by on the not side of the fence, for reasons I've already stated. But that doesn't make me dislike a character, because there's more to someones personality than how they feel for a person.

How is Martha to blame for the Doctor believing her? Surely if he is supposed to be this super genius Time Lord that he's constantly reminding us of, he'd know she was wrong. He's never been slow to do it in the past.
That works for the Jenny situation you presented.
If I recall correctly, Martha wasn't around to know that much about Jenny. Donna and the Doctor were around her the whole time and knew about her two hearts. So why is Martha taking all the flak when Donna and the Doctor could have quite easily have said.
'No, that's not right. Give it some time' They had more knowledge of Jenny than Martha did.

Also Jenny technically didn't regenerate. She retained her first form, so it was her hearts being brought back to life via the machine (forgive me I've forgotten it's name) thing. So the whole thing with Jenny was everyone's fault and no-one's as no-one really knew what would happen as she wasn't a direct offspring from the Doctor. Jenny is/was an anomaly, imo opinion they should have taken her to the TARDIS. But that's not how the story was meant to unfold.

Why did Martha pretend like she knew what she was talking about at all? That was my main problem. I know it's not her fault the Doctor believed her, but I just thought it was ridiculous that she said anything. I mean, she's a doctor at this point, so you think she wouldn't make any assumptions unless she was positive she knew what she was talking about.

You're right about Jenny. She didn't regenerate. But we don't really know how she came back to life. I think rather, that since she was in her first fifteen hours of her "regeneration cycle" (not exactly a fitting term, as she didn't regenerate, she just came into being, but I think you see what I mean), she had a similar thing happen to her as the Doctor growing back his hand in The Christmas Invasion.

My experience exactly (Rose was the first companion I saw). That's probably one of the reasons I have a special affection for her . I actually got a bit of a lump in my throat at the end of "Doomsday", mostly, I think, because it was so sad that Rose and the Doctor loved each other so much, but at the time, were never likely to see each other again :(. My thinking when Martha showed up was "I really loved Rose, but I'm going to get to know this new companion before I make a judgment about her". It took me a few episodes to get used to Martha, but in the end, I'd say I liked her as much as Rose . Good point about the difference in the way the two of them fell in love with the Doctor. I definitely agree- Rose did it gradually, while Martha went head over heels for him as soon as she met him (I'm sure the fact that he kissed her their first meeting, and despite his hasty assurance that it meant nothing, didn't help much either ;)).

Shadowcat, Tar-Dis (July 28th post), Phoenix, & Nauriel- I posted my own list of Pros & Cons of Martha & Rose as companions on another forum a few months back. This is what I wrote:
Quote:
On the one hand, Rose was completely devoted to the Doctor, even willing to risk her life for him, as evidenced in "Doomsday". ... Also, she had a sense of childlike wonder wherever and whenever she went with the Doctor, something that probably attracted him to her in the first place. On the other, she did seem to get herself into trouble quite a bit, and, admittedly, could be a bit too clingy at times.

Martha is very self-sufficient, and is much more capable of getting herself out of trouble without a great deal of help from the Doctor. I also noticed a couple of other stark differences between her and Rose: she's saved the Doctor's life at least three times (in the case of Rose, I'd say the Doctor saved her more times than she saved him), and she's been witness to a number of things Rose wasn't, and possibly wouldn't have been able to handle (i.e. she knows he's not completely immune to being overtaken, at least temporarily, by a malicious and/or evil alien force, she's aware that he sometimes longs to be "normal" and have his own family, she knows he's still bitter about what happened to his home planet and the rest of his race, she knows he's quite capable of intense anger and borderline extreme punishment of beings who are deadly threats to the human race , etc.). Basically, she's seen a side of the Doctor that Rose never did, and if she'd remained with him, might never have seen. As for bad qualities, the most immediate one I can think of is she fell in love with him too rapidly and too completely, so she becomes jealous easily, which, if a former female companion were to show up, might be rather problematic.
I originally posted this before seeing the three-part season three finale, so I now have a few things to add ;). Martha definitely deserves a hand for helping out the Doctor while the Master was holding him and Jack prisoner during "the year that wasn't", despite the fact that her life was in danger as well, so that gives her an additional point for great courage. Rose though, IMO at least, had her moments of showing courage as well. One that comes to mind is in the episode "Fear Her". After the alien-possessed little girl trapped the Doctor in one of her drawings, it was mostly up to Rose to prevent anymore people from being trapped that way. At any time, the little girl could have turned on her and trapped her, but Rose still did what she needed to do in order to stop her. Another is in "Doomsday". Admittedly, a good portion of her reason for staying was probably because she didn't want to be separated from the Doctor, but what matters is she did. She could easily have chickened out, even before the Doctor insisted she go back with Pete (I'm not going to say her father, because technically, he wasn't), her mother, and Mickey, but she decided to stay by the Doctor's side instead. I'm sure there are others, but nothing else comes to mind at the moment. In that way, she and Martha are both similar, making both good companions for the Doctor.

On the question of whether or not Doctor Who fans have a double standard when it comes to Rose and Martha, I'd have to agree. It seems like there is a very large group of fans who love Rose and hate Martha, and a large group whose opinion is the reverse. It doesn't really make sense to me, because I personally like both, and both fell in love with the Doctor (which doesn't really bother me much, BTW), after all, so why such extreme feeling about them one way or the other ?
